Sant Julià de Vilatorta

Since 1945, Sant Julià de Vilatorta and Vilalleons form a single municipality, whose surface is about 16 km2. The village of Sant Julià is over the frontier with Calldetenes village. It is situated in the valley of Sant Julià or Noguera rivers, in a place full of plentiful sources such as the ancient Noguera source or the Set Fonts one, which has got seven pipes and is situated in a coin of a park. Over the source there are some ruins of the fortress of Bellpuig family, known as Castle of Moors, with an attractive design due its high walls that stand out from the vegetation.

The village of Sant Julia de Vilatorta is an outdoor museum of modernist architecture and noucentista. The route stops in front of a large number of buildings, from which you can follow the explanations about architectural movements which were fashionable in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, modernism, historicist and noucentist styles and , as well as the history and customs of the families who lived there. It’s worth mentioning Casal Nuria, Ca la Manyana or Park of Seven Fountains, Michael Pallas works, College of Rosario, modernist building, a former agricultural school for orphans and other buildings of renown architects like Enric Sanigs or Josep Danish

Route of aviation field. Vilatorta Airfield

The route of the airfield Vilatorta is formed through the remains of the old airfield, with a total of 13 shelters, a hangar and a gunpowder arsenal. The airfield was made in 1938 and became a privileged witness of the republican government’s efforts to create a network of defense structures to counteract Franco attacks. Aiming to make small fighter-bombers, airfield starts operating to try to stop the last offensive blow of the national troops on Catalonia. The airfield includes the municipalities of Sant Julia de Vilatorta, Santa Eugenia de Berga and Calldetenes.
