Montseny Magic: Forest Walks, Roman Echoes and Mountain Flavours

In the southern part of Osona, Montseny and the Alt Congost serve as the natural gateway from Barcelona. This area is home to the renowned Montseny Natural Park, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and one of the most iconic natural landscapes in Catalonia.

The park is fully equipped for visitors to enjoy nature in a responsible and sustainable way, encouraging outdoor activities that respect the environment. One of the top hikes is the Matagalls summit, offering panoramic views from one of the highest peaks in the region.

Within the park lies the village of Viladrau, known for its rich chestnut-growing tradition and the famous Viladrau chestnuts. Here, you can take part in a unique experience that follows the journey of the chestnuts — from ancient forest trees to tasty handcrafted products, rooted in deep local heritage.

On the edge of the park, the Montseny Brewery opens its doors to visitors eager to learn about this beloved local craft beer. You’ll get a close-up view of the brewing process and enjoy a tasting session with pairings.

To top off the experience, head to Molí de la Llavina in Centelles, where you can discover how some of the region’s finest artisan cheeses are made — and of course, taste them too.

If you’re traveling by camper van, you’ll find well-equipped camper areas in Centelles and Viladrau, perfect for resting in nature and close to all the highlights of the Montseny Natural Park.
