Verdaguer House Museum. Folgueroles
The Verdaguer House Museum, located in Carrer Major de Folgueroles, was the poet’s
family house where he lived the early years of his life. Situated on an old cobbled
street, the museum is a small building, typical of village houses in the 17th
century but fitted out in the style of homes as they appeared in the middle of
the 19th century. On the ground floor visitors can follow the various stages
of the poet’s life and work. The rooms on the first floor reflect daily
life in a small village at the time, while at the very top of the building visitors
can explore the temporary exhibition and watch a thought-provoking film about
the poet’s eventful life.
Beyond the building itself, Folgueroles can be looked at as an open museum that
extends throughout the area, giving us the opportunity to discover the author’s
surroundings and the symbolic dimension of his literary output through art ranging
from Modernist works by J. M. Pericas (1908) to land art by Perejaume (2002)
and including works by Manolo Hugué and Pablo Palazulelo.
The literary tours are a way of getting to know the places associated with Verdaguer
in Folgueroles and other places on the Vic Plain.
Tour guides from the House Museum take visitors through the history of each place
where they can relish the words of the poet as they are read aloud.
